At Cypresswood Golf Club, we always welcome the opportunity to share with you our passion for the great game of golf. When you book one of our golf courses in Houston, you’ll be situated on over 600 acres of rolling, heavily wooded terrain along the confluence of Spring and Cypress creeks. This 36-hole golf facility offers two unique golf experiences and the finest of playing conditions.

The Tradition course at Cypresswood opened in 1997 and was designed by Keith Foster - a well known golf course architect famous for his work at The Bandit, Walking Stick, Bighorn, and The Quarry. The Tradition course has been rated the #1 daily fee course in the Houston area by the Houston Chronicle four consecutive years. The Tradition has played host to 1st Stage PGA Tour Qualifier 1998-2002 and 2005, Futures Tour 1999-2000, Shell Houston Open Qualifier 1997-2002 and numerous Southern Texas PGA Events. Golf Digest 4-Star Rating, "Best Places to Play".

The Cypress course earned Golf Digest's ranking of the "Best New Course" in 1988 and offers a challenging and exciting golfing experience, with dramatic topography and no homes nestled within the native forest of North Houston. The Cypress course has played host to the Shell Houston Open Qualifier, and has also earned Golf Digests 4-star rating for "Best Places to Play".

The club can accommodate groups of up to 600 players in two outdoor covered pavilions. Unlike many clubs, we don’t view outside events as second-class citizens, in fact they are a valuable and important part of our business. Friendly and flexible are the keywords when it comes to organizing your day with us. We try and put a minimum of restrictions in place, so that you can play when you want, eat when you want and get the overall great golf experience that you are looking for. We welcome groups on the weekend as well as during the week so you can choose a day and a time to suit you.

Cypresswood Golf Course has two 18-hole championship layouts cut from the natural beauty of Texas live oaks, limestone, rolling hills and Texas wildflowers. It spreads out on more than 600 acres and takes full advantage of the acreage.  Designed so that no two fairways would touch, Cypresswood creates a unique sense of playing alone.

It gives us great pleasure that the groups coming to Cypresswood Golf Club return year after year. We must be doing something right, because almost all our events rebook at once. That’s about it! So in a nutshell… the quality of our golf facilities, excellent food, spacious banquet facility, friendly atmosphere, accessible location and value for money makes us the perfect choice for golf outing, charity or corporate events.

Tournament Formats

Full-Field Shotgun

This format is designed for 144 players and requires the entire course to be used. All players start and finish at approximately the same time, an important consideration when coordinating events following a day of golf.

Modified Shotgun

The modified shotgun is the best way to handle groups numbering between 72 and 120 players. The entire group tees off at the same time with two groups of players assigned at each hole. For example, a tournament of 80 players would make 20 groups of 4 players at each hole. The groups start on a designated series of holes and finish at the same time. There may be extra costs incurred for the increase time and labor necessary on the part of the club to accommodate the modified shotgun start. The main benefit of the shotgun start is enabling the groups to start and finish together, which allows for adequate time for participation in any activities following play.

Single Tee

This format is the best way to accommodate smaller groups of 4-8 players. Each group tees off the first tee in sequential order. After the first group completes their second shot the next group tees off with the next group ready "on deck". The groups continue to tee off until all the groups are underway.

Scramble

This is one of the more popular formats because it is team oriented and can take advantage of the strengths of the better player while offering less skilled players an opportunity to contribute to the overall team score. This is a great format for large groups with a broad range of skill levels and the format tends to keep play moving at a good pace. Teams usually consist of 2-5 players and each team member tees of at every hole. The best shot is selected and all of the second shots are played from that position. This process is continued until the ball is holed. The lowest team score for the outing wins the tournament.

Best Ball

This is a excellent format for team play and for groups of all sizes. It is faster than an individual event because if someone is having a bad day, they can pick up their ball. This format requires the use of handicaps to ensure the teams are fairly balanced in their skill level. All the players on each team keep score. The lowest score on each team is the one recorded for the team. The team with the lowest score is the winner
